Our animal shelter recently had a pig. One of the employees took it home for Sunday dinner.​

Well, I guess I would go take a look at them, ask what conditions they came from, and then quarantine them for 20 years...

Why not? As long as you quarantine them just you should any birds coming in they should be fine. Check them over for external parasites and treat them for internal and external parasites. Bless you....

It could be good, in that don't they usually get checked over by a vet before being adopted out?

One bycer said her animal control place wanted something like $ 120 I believe to adopt a chicken, same as for a dog or cat. AC ended up putting it down. Just another crazy policy.
