Adoption Rant....

Honestly, a lot of shelters and rescues drive me nuts because of this. I love adopting animals...but dealing with the people who adopt out? Not always so much. Generalizing of course, and find that most of the volunteers and workers are amazing, and it usually comes down to management (what doesn't?). XD I hate seeing people not being able to adopt a dog that would be perfect for the family because they have children and the rescue won't adopt out to *anyone* with children. I hate seeing too lax of shelters too that push an obviously dog-aggressive dog on a family adopting for the first time, telling them he'll 'settle down' (just witnessed that one...yeesh). Then there are adoption groups for everything from rabbits to rats that want weekly 'inspections' of any adopter's home...it can be ridiculous. You can definitely get your mom to adopt this little girl (another reason why the various rules and applications make me snicker a bit), or you can adopt from a shelter run by balanced people and support them instead.

PS She is GORGEOUS! I might have a hard time not just getting my mom to adopt her too.

IF you can coach your mom. Have her make sure she doesn't put you down as a person she knows, or a reccomendation.
Have her use her vet, and don't go with her to see the dog. IF you can have her bring your dog OR her dog.. unless she doesn't have one..
Sometimes they make the potential adopter bring their cats. AND all family members.. so ensure she knows this OR lies through her teeth that
she is not married and has no kids....
Good luck and let us know what happens.

I'm another one that wasn't allowed to adopt because my 20 acres isn't fenced. It's crazy when they've got so many dogs in the shelters now, and are euthanizing them left and right. People are giving away dogs for free on craigslist every day. You'd think the shelter would have a little latitude considering you have to pay $150 to adopt.

I had to do the same thing. My mom and I used the same vet so we talked to the and they were thrilled to help us. One less dog in the shelter. They think the policy is nuts. We also adopted a 6mo old parvo puppy from a rescue. We had to have a home inspection and all our vet rec. for the last 8yrs. It didn't mean anything that I did foster work a cat rescue or took in abandon wildlife until the could be placed. We had ref. from animal control. We did get the puppy. You would think that they would be thrilled to get a puppy with a serious illness adopted, all in all he cost us over 1,000 but we love him even though he will always will sick on and off and will not live a long life. Out of the 6 puppies only 2 lived to be adopted. Our guy will be 5 in Aug. We also got a purebreed pup from a breeder for 500.00 as a friend for our guy.
The shelters and rescues are really turning people off . I know finding the right home is important but really!!!

If you want a cat they will prac. give you as many as you want. I went in and said "Ok who's on list for this week" came home with 3 wonderful cats 2 under 6mo old and one purebreed all spayed shots etc. for free!

Have you tried boxer buddies rescue? It is in Mass. I don't know much about it other then they rescue boxers and they have cute dogs

but you may want to look into that shelter. Here is a link: http://www.boxerbuddies.org/ Good luck!

I went to Boxer Buddies, this is what I found when I clicked on the adoption link:( Oh well I will keep looking:)
We can only process applications from the following states: MA, RI, CT, NH, and southern ME

Well today is a new day. I am going to have to plan this carefully. My mother is not the best under pressure so I am hoping I can get through this:)

Thats when being friends with the local ACO is useful. I have 5 acres(maybe .25 of it fenced) and I just go tell her what im looking for and she gives me a call and I pay the shelter a finders fee basically.

Just about any breed rescue organization will require a fenced yard. We live on a few acres, my dogs/cats live as part of the family, and all of our animals live a pretty pampered life, with documented proper vet care, Frontline Plus, etc., but we were shot down when attempting golden retriever rescue (even with hard to place older dogs) because we didn't have a fenced yard (we do now).
I didn't know many animal shelters required this too.

The animal shelters I've dealt with don't have this requirement. While I understand that many of these rules are in place to best insure that the animal will be in a good home, many places go overboard, so dogs end up living in small cages or pens rather than going to a potentially loving home.
I hope you manage to adopt that cute little girl!!
