Personally, I'd rather have an Iowa-class battleship. Modernized, of course. Man, the Iowas were the queens of the sea until the Navy decided to mothball 'em. Those things have more firepower than any other ship in existence, and battleship shells are MUCH cheaper than missiles, but almost as accurate. Besides, you can't shoot down a shell.

Not true.

With modern AA missiles and computer-controlled AA guns, nothing could get close enough to fire. Besides, it has been shown that it would take SIX direct hits from a freakin' cruise missile just to SLOW DOWN an Iowa.

They're nigh on invincible.

Interesting fact: during one WWII naval engagement (the name escapes me), carriers without battleship AA cover were either sunk or seriously damaged. The ones with battleship support were untouched.
