Adventures in Incubating Shipped Eggs

Day 20

Still nothing to report. Eggs are still non-rocking and non-peeping, but this is consistent with what I've experienced before, so I'm trying to stay optimistic. I washed out the chick feeder and waterers and picked up some pine shavings at the store today. They were out of chick food, but will have it back in stock tomorrow. Really hoping that I need it!

How are other folks in lockdown doing?

I was about to report that I have symptoms of Lockdown Insanity, and I must have been imagining the peeping... but just to confirm, I went over and tapped the incubator, and said "Hello??" very firmly, and I absolutely heard a very loud "Peep! Cheep!" in reply. So, there's a chick. :love

I have my brooder set up with ramekins full of glass pebbles for water dishes, and another little dish of chick feed. Really wishing I did not have to go to work tomorrow morning, but it's just a half day, so hopefully there won't be any problems.

Have you tried tapping and talking to the chicks? I heard my broody talking quite a bit to her egg on Day 19 and 20. :)

That Appenzeller chick has pipped! The one that was always jumping when I candled, and who started rocking her egg this morning. I'm guessing she's the one that was shouting back at me a few hours ago. With her energy, I'm guessing she'll start unzipping tonight. (Yes, I know it might be a cockerel, haha. I am just having hopeful hen thoughts.)

I would love to hear that. ;)

No you don't. The little ones are still cowering in their shells.

:wee

It looks like another egg has almost pipped. I thought I was seeing things, egg was moving ever so slightly. Teen tiny cracks appeared on side of egg but it didn't pip through entirely yet. *fingers crossed*
I know what you mean... I've been wondering if I've been seeing things, too. Keep us posted!
