Advice for Getting Ducks? Need all the help I can get

My family and I have been raising chickens for about 5 years now, and we want to start raising a couple ducks. I’ve been doing rigorous research but I’m still slightly new to the whole duck thing. The Welsh Harlequin is a breed that is frequently catching my eye but is it a quiet bird for a neighborhood? We have a large backyard but regardless we do have some stingy neighbors who have complained because we have had some roosters, I need help knowing how loud ducks are and if my family and I should get them, if I should get two females or two drakes ? HELP!!

Welcome to BYC! I only have experience with a few breeds of ducks and my ducks are louder than my chickens. My Pekin is the loudest girl ever and my Pekin Drakes get chatty often, but aren't too loud once their voice changes from duckling to Drake. My others are a Buff Orpington Duck, and drakes are Cayuga and Welsh Harlequin (I've always thought he was a Mallard, but I was wrong). My Buff Duck is probably the quietest but she can be pretty vocal. The Cayuga and Welsh Harlequin are both very vocal but quieter now that their voices have changed. My ducks free range on a pond so they talk a lot to each other, so hopefully others will chime in. I do love my ducks and wish everyone could have some!

My Buff Duck is more squeaky and quite, so maybe others can add their experience with this breed. She does quack, but her normal is always quiet squeaks. I don't believe I've ever heard her like I hear my Pekin. Might be worth looking into. Unfortunately my Buff Duck doesn't like humans as much as my Pekins
