Advice/help requested - 8x8 shed to coop conversion

Wall is fixed! Had to cut part of the chicken wire off and bend it back to knock the top and bottom pieces out to remove the longer side. Then I basically ended up with a 'C' shape frame, peeled back some of the wire and chopped the excess wood off, and put it back together (with screws this time!). That was real fun.

I'll be putting up the walls and door tomorrow.

My next question is... How the heck do you install windows in a shed? I've looked up videos and tutorials and I kind of understand... I'm just apprehensive because it will be the major change I do to the shed (aside from cutting out a pop door) and I don't want to mess it up!

I posted about the windows I got on the first page of this thread. The smaller set of windows fit right in between the studs. I'm planning on placing one under the end of the poop board/roost and the other on the opposite side of the shed. I have larger ones that I plan to use for the east-facing wall. I have updated my plans below (this is not exactly accurate - just eyeballed!)

As always, any advice or help is greatly appreciated! :bow

I converted almost the exact shed into my coop ( mine was old and weathered so alot was new paint and trim ) with 18 birds I tried to keep as much inside space as possible.

Made outside accessible nesting boxes , cut in a window on other wall , raise up roost and turned the chickens loose !

Ah! @Mr Pink! I was just looking at your run the other day because I'm looking for a cover for ours once we get it built. I LOVE your setup! How did you add the window to your shed? I'm guessing I just mark out the space where it will go, cut the wall out, add a 2x4 support on the top and bottom and... That's where I get lost!:p

Well thank you for your compliments ...My wife says I over build everything , I thought it was bare minimum but functional ANYWAY

YES window is as you described . I would have liked it to have been much higher and factory sliding glass but the pitch on the shed roof is steep and runs down more then half way. I simply framed out a hole and made a solid door . It's been open pretty much all spring and summer but I closed it up the other day when night time temps dipped below freezing

Window on first page should be easy to install as it's 'pre-hung'.

.....pop it in, screw it to the structure.

Tho looking at the pics of window on the first page I quite can't tell which way it goes in, one flange should be bigger than the the other-that one should go outside.

Aha I see! I have actual windows I bought from Restore that I'm planning on using. But I may do something like yours, although smaller, for the gable vents or on the main shed doors for extra ventilation.

I saw a picture of your wife and her awesome pink hair from your run pictures! Very cool!

@aart Thanks for sticking with me through this whole thing! You make it sound so easy! ;) Don't I have to add flashing or insulation around them or something?

Here's pics of those little hinge windows:

The sides are the only parts that stick out, top and bottom are flush.

Stumped!

Flashing over the top would be good, got some sheet metal?
Some caulk, maybe/probably..... but insulation, nah.

I'm a little stumped too...not quite sure what I would do with that.
Wonders what kind of application it was made for...thinking concrete block wall,
then it would caulked/cemented in.

What are the exact outer dimensions W x L x D...you've got a tape measure, right?
Also, the dimension between the studs where you want to put it

Negative on the sheet metal. What's a tape measure? ...Just kidding! :lau :smack Exact measurements are:
Window = 11 3/4"h x 17 3/4"w x 3 5/16"d
Stud space = 42"h x 22 3/8"w

I had planned on putting one window here under the poop board/roost

(not centered, just for photo reference)

Only other option for the south side would be on the storage side to the right:

I guess I'd just cut a hole in the siding that's 10 3/4"h x 16 3/4"w.
Put flashing at top of hole, use 2x2's inside to support weight of window, and caulk window to inside of siding.
.There's more but hard to type it out, could make you a drawing, but not today.
