Wow. Now that I've read all the posts about the show, I'm glad I missed it. Sadly all shows like that will do is make people think ALL chicken owners are like that and makes it harder for folks to get ordinances changed.

A valid point, it happened in a nearby town here after a hoarder was found with something like 47 dogs. They passed a new ordinance that next year saying no residential home can have more than 5 animals total. So now all the animal rescues, fosters, and legitimate owners are fighting it.
My city at least doesn't wrap it around all species, you just can't have more than 5 dogs without being a licensed kennel.
It has to be a mental illness, how else would you be unable to see the conditions and what you were doing to your house and animals? I can't make sense of it.
I am thinking ac didn't go in the trailer with the chickens/guiennies (sp?), they just saw the goats ducks and turkeys and did load up a lot of those. I don't know how that could have gone on that long, well with the animals in the house who would know unless they went in. I felt sorry for the dr from the show, that family is in such bad shape, all her kids (16) taken away from abuse (well 10 that are living I guess), some were there and in as bad a shape as their mother it seemed. I would have been scared to be there without a sidearm on me (the kids were physically attacking each other, when I say kids I mean adults). She refused all help, and sadly will die alone in that pile of garbage (not just animals she hoarded, the house and the trailer she moved into when the house was too full of trash were full of garbage) she was eating in filth on top of a dirty 5 gallon bucket. I can't believe she can't be forced into some kind of assisted living facility, tho with her rage and temper she would be a danger to all involved (she grabbed her one sane daughter by the neck and shoved her).
It was just horribly sad all around, people and animals.
The rabbit guy was a jerk (yes I know a mentally ill person) Just wow, hid in his room and then left when the landlords showed up. left his sick wife to deal with the whole thing. But I can't believe the differenct they made in that home in two days, at least they were allowed to help them. I can't believe the home owners didn't toss them out though.
All in all the most disturbing show like this I have ever seen.
I am glad I missed this show. It sounds like it would have given me nightmares. I know that hoarding is a mental illness, but it is hard to locate sympathy when animals are involved.
I would guess that animal control was asked to wait 1-2 days until the show was over....and depending on the progress made, recheck then. The show removed the injured animals and let the chickens free.....i would guess that animal control returned. They can't just "give up" on a complaint.....but they will give people a few days to work on it, which is what I suspect happened here.
After reading all this I'm kinda glad I missed it! I know it's a mental condition, but it IS hard to find any pity where animals are involved. I've watched that Animal Cops show before and it always makes me go a little overboard for a few days spoiling the heck out of my dog and chickens! They don't mind though,
I get loving animals and wanting them around, but I don't get how it gets so out of hand. We have a dog, a fish, a 40 gallon tank with 12 little hermit crabs, a snake in a reptarium, 2 giant african millipedes, and our 8 chickens. I take care of the dog, the kids and I all play with and walk her. My older son takes exceptional care of his snake and millipedes, and my younger son takes care of his hermit crabs and feeds his little fish. I check up on them and make sure they are doing everything they should of course, but they know that if they start to slack off on caring for their pets, the pets will be gone. The animals we all keep are completely dependent on us for everything, and we owe it to them to give them the best lives we can.
