Against the odds-Slushie's and Chubby's babies <3. updates.

the eggs are entering their final stretch. last few days....
we've only lost one to some bacteria. i candled it and it was green EVERYWHERE. in the air sac it was gross and moldy. it smelled HORRIBLE!! i didn't want to crack it open to see, so we just threw it away. if there was a baby in there that was dead, i don't think i would have been able to handle that.

thanks everybody. as soon as i set them up for their final days, i was down there about every ten minutes to make sure everything was okay. i was checking on them and my mom pointed out that it had only been 10 minutes and nothing was going to change. i really hope they all hatch, and i pray most of them are girls so that we can keep some. i think i'd want one boy so i could have chubby's son.

i have a question. when i candled last night, there was still only blobs, larger each day, but they are still small, well smaller than i think they should be. should i be hearing peeping or anything? and how large should the baby blobs be? i'm nervous.

Hey Duckcrew,
When you candle in the last days you should still be able to see veining in the egg--that is the most important clue that the babies are still alive. If you are paitent and hold the egg up to the light long enough (not too long, just more than a second or two) you should also see some movement--at least a "shadow dance."
My duck babies didn't fill the shell until the very last days before hatching--at the end I think they grow very quickly. It was like one day (maybe day 21-22) they were only half full and then suddenly (day 24-25) they were all the way full.
I hope this helps. I really hope you have some hatch.

'It is very difficult what happened to your ducks, and I have been impressed with your ability to openly grieve about it! They were very special, and your next babies will be special as well, but never the same.

Well, if they are close to hatching, you will see about 2/3rds of the egg filled with "blob" and 1/3 filled with air cell.

if they aren't that big should i bring the humidity back down and turn them again until they are that big?

i just candled them in the bator, just turned off the light. the blobs are much bigger than before, but they are not touching the air cell, should i be concerned? also, i don't have a light that will allow me to see veining. i've tried and we just don't have a light that lets us see anything other than large shapes, such as the air cell and blob, no details.
