I am wondering about the age/signs of egg laying first time chicken owner here. They are 23 weeks old, we live in Michigan though. Will they lay this fall yet??

My gold laced Wyandotte, started laying at 39 weeks and not consistently. There also known to mature slower.

Your other 3 birds might lay through the winter seems they'll mature around that time.

Oh wow I was not expecting that, I’ll cross my fingers for eggs soon!

The combs and wattles are still small and pale, they might not lay this year since the days are shorter now.
When the combs and wattles turn red and get bigger, that's a good sign they'll lay soon.
Ohhh okay, this was an older picture they do have larger combs now but not sure how large is normal…

Get more up to date photos and that'll give us a better idea. But given that days are growing shorter for fall, even if they're physically closer to laying they may not actually start up until after daylight starts increasing again.

Okay these are from today, the black one is the one that I have the most hope for. She has been acting a little more different too. Squatting down when I pet her, she didn’t do that before.

The black one definitely looks redder, and the squatting is also a good sign of laying onset coming sooner rather than later. 10-14 days, maybe?

The black and gold laced one is also pretty red.
