Age to lay eggs.

For most breeds they start laying in about 5 to 8 months. If your expecting eggs, have a nest box ready to make it easier on yourself, otherwise your gonna be egg hunting in your yard if there free range. Use layer feed or give oyster shells in its own container when you see first egg.

Not sure as to average age but most chickens will start investigating potential nesting sites before they lay. Has nothing to do with breed and not every individual will do it.
