Rest in Peace 1970-2018
This can be such a touchy subject.
Jenn, I can't think of many people who haven't needed a helping hand
at some point in their lives. Once he finds a job he won't need the help
any longer.
There are so many variations on this theme. Take the single mom for
example. Was she married with kids and her hubbie took off or died
or was she a single teen who had multiple children due to irresponsible
sex? Now any reasonable person has to say "what difference does it
make? Don't we still need to make sure the children eat?". It's a
catch22. We must take care of all the children. That is the only real
truth I can see. We can argue later on how we do that.
Now for the real politics. Our government, one party imparticular, has
created a welfare state in this country in order to buy votes. I hope no
one here is so naive that they think they are doing this out of the
goodness of their hearts. 80% of welfare is to control masses.
Why do you people think so many of us conservatives are terrified of
national healthcare? We look at our current welfare system for one.
I'm an Christian Independent Conservative American therefore helping
people less fortunate than I should be my own personal mandate and in
many ways it is. How do we help when we can barely pay our own
bills and taxes are so high because our government has exploded?
There was a time in this country when private organizations, mostly
churches, cared for the poor. They weren't given a free ride but the
help they needed. It wasn't perfect but it's a lot better than what we
have now.
The variables on this are endless. What about the mentally ill who live on
our streets?
The things about the welfare system I know that give me comfort are
1-I know some of the people truly need and a just society must help them.
2-The people who work the system are mostly miserable thieves. If
they want to live that life than so be it.
3-The entire budget for state and national welfare is only a few percentage
points of the fed and state budgets. From a relativists perspective it's
small.
I went easy here. No one start a fight.
