Ahhh I hope it’s not a roo!! Help!

I have 4 Ameraucana “hens” that were hatched on 7/7 making them about 14 weeks old. I was told all were female but this morning at 6:15 I heard a creepy weird sound from my chicken coop. I was about yo leave for work but grabbed my flashlight to investigate. When I got to the coop only one chicken was awake. The one who looks totally different than the others. This one is double the size of the other girls and the coloring is so cool! She/he looks like a hawk! Can someone please confirm or deny this is a Roo?!? I hope it’s a hen but I’m prepared for a Rooster.

As long as you collect the eggs daily, and keep them cool, they will not start to develop and are just as good for eating as any other egg.

He is a cockerel, but not an Ameraucana. He is an Easter Egger and a pretty one too!

The pointy feathers that are growing near his tail are saddle feathers. As a general rule, roosters will have pointy saddle feathers, while hens have more blunted/rounded ones. Your guy has super cool coloring, he almost looks like 2-3 chickens in one!

Oh wow! Thanks for showing me this. I do see the difference. Yeah he’s super cool looking and he’s actually the one I REALLY wanted when i saw him as a day old chick. I made the lady chase him down because he was so pretty even as a new chicky.

He's a handsome fella! Fingers crossed he's quiet. But that sound coming from your coop that probably sounded like a dying cat.....was just your confirmation. Lol Just a question, no judgement. Why do you not want fertilized eggs?

YES! A dying cat! It was a weird bellow sound!
I don’t think I want too many more chickens I have 12 now.
