We are surrounded by fires. We should be fine, but they say to be prepared to evacuate, just in case. What the heck can I do to help my chickens? The air quality is hazardous and at 337 right now. I am thinking of bringing them in the house, but I feel like that will be just as stressful for them. I don’t know what to do. I’d hate for them to get sick.

A make shift hepa filter.. the kind of square/rectangle flat ones that are meant for your home ac/heat unit.. placed in front of or behind a fan.. for at least coop??

Or... A wet towel placed in front of or behind a box style fan.. MIGHT reduce some particulate, at least when they're laying or sleeping inside the coop.. which is a fair portion of time.

My best ideas off the top of my head, having never dealt with it before. It would be a GREAT topic for an article (also this thread, but if you get great response consider pulling it together into one easy read with key points) since many in California, Colorado, and other locations face horrendous wildfires every year! :barnie

I'm glad you will be mostly safe. :)

Thank you! I have lived in California my entire life. It’s never been THIS bad for me where I live until a few years ago with the paradise fires. The hepa filter is actually a great idea and I have one since we got air purifiers a few years ago because of this exact situation. I have a portable fan too. Going to try and see if I can make that idea work!!!

Now that it's been a few weeks, how has that worked out for you, @misshell? Asking because as of Labor Day we're now having horrid smoky air up here, too.
