ALABAMA!!

Of the birds we have bought so far, the one that is guaranteed to go to freezer camp is by far the sweetest and most cuddly. He (fingers crossed for a tom) does that pathetic call chirp till I come talk to him and then he chatters and carries on a conversation with me as he tries to hop out of his pen =[ that is until I give in and spend the next hour or so letting him sleep in the crook of my neck... If only my chicken chicks were so personable!!! They just love me for my meal worms =P

My chickens are 100%
pure bred
mutts lol
my original chickens were said to be some sort of game, I don't really remember cause at the time it wasn't important to me. We mixed in some red 'flea market ' hens and my new roo is supposed to be a jersey giant.

Nothing wrong with that. Some of my favorite chickens are mutts

Here is a picture of my newest motley crew. Mostly butts but they must have found something good.

Was woken up at 5am this lovely Easter morning by my husband telling me that my turkey was dead ;( I have no idea what happened!! The temp was at 96.5

Did you watch it drink at all? Apparently they need to be shown how to do that sort of thing.

Sorry for your loss

From what I gather they're pretty hard to raise.

Sorry for your loss on that little Turkey Poult. I know how you feel. I have hatched out maybe 60-80 little Turkeys in the last 7 years and I think I have only gotten maybe 10 of them to make it to Adulthood, most die for whatever reason within their first 10 days of life it seems. They are the hardest thing I've tried to raise on my little farm.

With turkey poults you really need chicks to help teach the poult to eat and drink. Even then I still dunk them in the food and water every hour for a few days or until I see them eating and drinking on their own. If they don't have a momma to teach them you have to become their momma to teach them.

It's amazing they can sell turkey for as little as they do in stores.... Makes you wonder how the big turkey farms do it.
