They are adorable! It was hard for me to not grab a few of TSC's brown egg pullets! But I have 15! And yeah, I've noticed that the Orps are definitely taking longer to get their feathers! They just started getting tail feathers day before yesterday and the EE's have two inch long tails already! It's been really fun watching them grow! What age do Black Orps typically start laying? Are the Orps your favorite, hence your name?![]()
Yes, love English orps!!! Love their size! But since all my trees are cut down I've been having predator problems. I could keep them confined to a cage but the cage I is to small for them. That's why I'm going to Bantams.
But your orps should lay about 6-8 months. Some later an earlier. They will be as big as they are going to grow in about 1 year but it takes them about 2 years to fully fill out. And you would think they would cull them around that time but been told culling orps for meat takes place around 8 months.
