ALABAMA!!

Congrats!! :) How many in your flock now. The Rocks look like they are doing well.
My newbies are growing so fast. Every day, I inspect them and make my guesses about their sexes. It will be interesting to see how close I am. I can't wait for them to mix them with my existing flock. I'm pretty excited about having some blue eggs, too.

Got the 9 hens (2 white rock, 2 Australorps, 2 production red..things..., 2 partridge rocks and one hatchery Australorp/Jersey Giant... thing). 2 white rock chicks (boys), 4 barred rock chicks (3 boys, 1 girl, I think) and then the 3 Jersey Giant chicks (1 boy, 2 girls, I think).

The rock boys are going to freezer camp when they're big enough, especially the barred ones, they're rambunctious and nippy! I think the JG boy will be a bit better behaved. Well behaved boys get to stay for a while.. until they get too loud, then I rehome them (when possible). I don't enjoy eating nice boys. I may keep one of the white rock boys for a while, I would love to hatch a few babies from my white rock hens.

Anyway, after freezer camp I expect to have 12 girls and 1 or 2 boys. Once they're all laying I intend to sell off some of my original bunch.. keep the flock fresh. We'll see. I may be so darn busy with the baby that it doesn't happen til next spring

12 is my ideal hen number though. 14 is my mental max of birds.

That's a lot of chickens for not needing any..... In 18 pullets, chances are one will be an accidental boy.

Whoop whoop, I've got new kids

(chicken kids, no human kid, yet)

Just met Cornflake and got his trio of Jersey Giant chicks. They're a tad smaller than my current bunch, but they'll be alright.. they've got plenty of room to get out of the way of the boys, if needed.

Keeping an eye on them, to make sure they find their way under the heat plate, since they were raised with a heat lamp.. so far, so good. They're a little nervous, but that's understandable.. it's a big big world out there! If needed, they can sleep indoors with a heat lamp.

They're the little emu looking ones! My rocks looked like that a week ago.
Congrats on your new additions.

One of my OEGB is a boy and he is rambunctious as well. I think it's hilarious because he thinks he is 10ft tall but in reality he about 3" tall to his back and probably weigh less than a quarter pound.

When he is big enough I will have to find a home for him where he can strut his stuff.
