ALABAMA!!

Noticed this morning I've got a couple of my Slw with missing tail feathers haven't seen anyone pulling feather. What can I do about that?
It's probably the same with chickens.

With quails you remove the one that is causing the feather loss for a couple of days.
But it doesn't work if it's a male. They are too busy thinking of other stuff

****! I need to go ahead and shoot myself! A friend of a friend knew I wanted some silkies (this was last year before I got all these chicken this year) said he had some chicks and wanted to give me some. Not sure why I said "YES" but I did!! Here I was trying to reduce my number closer to what I attended to have which was two birds

I thought I was doing good by getting my number down to 7 chickens.

Hey, you rehomed some, you got some new ones.. it evens out! And silkies are smaller than EE, so you 'downsized'.

Question? I have two bunches of hens one 4 weeks older than the others. When the first bunch start laying will it hurt the younger ones to eat the layer feed?

I stopped worrying about it. Someone once told me that there's way more calcium in green veggies, bugs and all that random stuff that chickens eat than there is in layer feed. I trust this person's experience and so far, I haven't seen any ill effects. The amount of protein is a bit lower compared to grower feed, but that's easily amended (and probably recommended), by adding bugs and other sources of protein other than soy (that's what's in most feeds).

I hate crumble, it's so messy... and I have yet to find a grower feed that's pelleted.

It's probably the same with chickens.

Yup. Also, if a chicken plucks and then eats feathers, it can be a lack of protein. I've had a feather eater during the winter.

It's the Slw I thought was a rooster to begin with. Guess he's just being a teenager he's biting all the hens butts even the ones that are bigger than him
