Did you all get T-storms heavy rains early this morning?
VERY heavy rain and thunder and tornado watch from 7 till 12.
I research a lot. This year's summer garden is looking good. My tomatoes are actually growingI will have to try mulching. I was worried that grass would sprout in my soil, but I will try
I always want to do too much too fast, so I end up not being very good at any one thing.
You really should mulch if you want any sort of success in gardening!
You can use compost as mulch but that's either an expense to buy it, or an extra task to create it. And it's really not the best mulch anyway IMHO.
I don't like woodchips unless it's in perennial beds where you're not churning and turning twice a year. You do not want woodchips mixed into your soil. It freezes up the nutrients so your plants can't access what they need.
I hate rocks in ANY landscape. They never stay where you want them and hitting them with a lawnmower can equal replacing a window pane really quickly. They're unpleasant to walk on and they aren't cheap.
Rubber mulch is fake and I would never use something that won't decompose.
The only thing I would prefer to my grass is straw (not hay) because of the lack of seeds to sprout but that would be an expense and my grass is free so...
I really truly prefer the grass. I've had just a few areas where it tries to sprout from the seeds in it, but they tiny babies and not like grown grass where the extensive roots make them a task to remove, just pull when they're little shoots and you're golden. Just make sure it's dry before you put it down.
(I can go on and on and on about gardening. I do so enjoy it. BUT AS A DISCLOSURE, I'm no master gardener. This is just my opinion of the options out there based on my experiences and the advice from my father and grandfather =]
