I just culled a beautiful Orpington roo that had copper in his shoulder feathers. A friend took the Splash boy, and we opted to put the Blue in the freezer.

29 roosters went to Camp Kenmore yesterday, along with the last 10 meat birds. It is SO freakin' quiet around here now!!

Sure is, am thinking of getting 30+ in the spring and giving him a call. Raise them to about 14-16 weeks and sell em for $5 each without having to transport them? Easy money!

Heehee! Just went out to put the chickens to bed and there was a soft shelled egg on the ground under the roost... I *think* a belongs to the Welsummer which would be AWESOME as she hasn't started to lay yet. It was RIGHT under her.

Hello Alaskans! I'm so happy to know there's so many of us out there. I live up on Lazy Mountain, overlooking the splendid Palmer Recreational Lock Down Facility. We have a small parcel with 10 Turkeys, 5 BBW and 5 Wild, 6 Brown Laced Wyandotte pullets, 1 Arucana Rooster, and three Bantam Buff Laced Wyandottes and 10 rabbits, 6 of them are only 3 weeks old on Sunday.

I look forward to being a part of the boards!

Rachel, the red chantecler cockeral is more of a copper color. My whole batch was a June 1st hatch. It is interesting how the buff and red chanteclers are so different. The reds are smaller and have absolutely no combs and only a hint of waddles. I didn't end up butchering out the rest of my roos so I can't say what their carcasses looked like. I sold a bunch of them on craigslist and will probably send off another batch this weekend, maybe tomorrow. If you are interested in the red Chante I will hang on to him for a while.

When you order from Sandhill you might consider ordering the specific ones you want and then fill in your 25 with assorted heavies. That is how I got the chanteclers. I ordered 4 Delawares and 4 Rosecomb RIR. I had also ordered some Buckeyes but the didn't have any that hatch and substituted the red chantes. I am so happy with them. They are curious and personable. I hope to breed some more of those. With getting "assorted heavies" I ended up with some really nice birds that I wouldn't have had otherwise.

Karl's hunter got a moose which means we don't have to get one ourselves this year. He isn't taking the meat back (it's too expensive)
