Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

Tori - Money sent thru paypal....

If there's anything I missed thru this day and the majority of yesterday that needed my attention on here, please let me know. I'm mentally exhausted from dealing with computer crap. Had to break down and get a new router... I'll explain more tomorrow about that...

Carmen and Donna - thank you for the transporting

I'm out.

You guys stay up late and talk about important stuff, while I'm in bed by 9! Waaa...I feel like a kid missing out on "grown folks talk". Anyway, I'm up by 7 in the morn, so there's that. I like those peachy faced Ameracaunas, too. I'm always a day late dollar short on here!

Gosh I don't know. The cayenne worked for me. Do you have a rooster with them? I suspect that they will perk the hens up sometimes too, if you don't have one. Other than that I haven't a clue. Someone here might know something helpful. There are some very knowledgible people here.

for your hatch! Sounds like you did okay.

My thoughts on it are that chickens love creature comforts. ie. clean coops/hay/nestboxes. If I go too long between cleanings, they start slacking. If there's not enough clean hay in the boxes... they start slacking. If I don't feed them enough protein, fresh water, 14 hours of daylight... they start slacking. Have you checked for lice? That will somethimes throw them off. Is there a chance that they're hiding their nests/eggs? I discovered quite by accident that many of my girls were squeezing into the small space between the top of the nest boxes and the ceiling of the coop, and laying their eggs up there. How old are they? Are they old enough to be molting? Lots of factors to consider.

On another note, I got the grow-out pen split, am gathering my supplies and let the inventory-taking begin!!

Well I clean there nesting boxes every week so that my eggs are all ways nice and clean when i go get them. The coop I am trying the deep litter method so every time there is a smell or i cant walk in there with out getting crud stuck to the bottom of me shoes I add a new layer. I feed them layer pellets that have i think 16% protein with some crack corn and BOSS not a lot of corn and boss only like a couple of handfuls a day. the water gets changed twice a day my kid likes to do it and the light is on at all times. Now I have to go check for lice ahh here is hoping I don't have any. I dont think i do but i have not picked one up and moved her feathers back to look. I wonder if i go out and shake her if she will drop an egg

Grabbing some coffee, feeding the critters, then counting heads of the 6-8 week olds, and I'll go through all my messages and make a final list. Maybe I need to make a road trip on Friday? Carmen? Are you going to have room?

I think with the 21 we have so far and Elizabeth's two Ill be okay, especially since Tracy will have her vehicle too. But, I think that is about all we can do. I don't want them over crowded.

Oh....this is totally random, but I put in a request for an inter-library borrowing of the documentary Mad City Chickens. If anyone wants to get together and watch it, it'd be very nice. I'd like to host this, but I have a small tv and no couch...lol, seriously...we have a cot. The movie is about backyard chickens and the people who raise them across the country. It came out 2 years ago, so maybe some of you have already seen it? Anyway, I thought I would just put that out there.

Ok... I'll try to get a final head count today. Aimee and Donna both wanted to add one of the PFW Ameraucanas, but they're little.

Just putting this out there... if I were to make a road trip on Friday, how many people could meet me in either Wasilla/Palmer or Anchorage? I think we have people in Palmer, Wasilla, Eagle River, Chickaloon, Big Lake...

I have a truck, and lots of kennels... and I have a friend that's been teasing me with MoosesTooth and I think she owes me a pizza!

Think about it... since PFDs come out tomorrow, I'll be able to afford a full tank of gas.
