Just threw this picture up in the predator section....

I'll be glad when they get some salmon to eat instead of pestering my chickens.

I have Welsummers and Ameraucanas from Will Marrow.

Homer Hozer.

Hey, that looks like the netting set-up I have (with the pole in the middle). But mine is much tackier!

I think I take the prize for 'trailer trash' chicken coop!

I have had the ravens eyeing my chickens.

BLRWs are what I want to switch to after we move next year.
Plan to still raise a few cochins as well, as they are such good brooders. Just not enamored with the way they lay.

ETA: none will be blue. No genetics for that.

We will be moving to family property in MI next year.
Big change, but one that is needed to help parents out, and it will allow us to finally live as self sufficient as possible.

Thanks, Tori. I put the pinless peepers on and they are all still on. They seem to be helping. Some of the hens backs are pinning out. In the past these would have already been pulled.

I isolated my bloated hen and gave her some antibiotics and put some in her water. She laid one egg, so she is not egg bound. She looked a little better after a few days and I put her back in general population. She promptly hustled into the coop and laid another egg. That earned her a stay of execution. I'm on the solpe now. We will see how she is when I get back. I might try draining her when I get home. All my eggs have lightened up....not as dark as when they first started laying.

Amy are those the BLRW from Wildwood farms? I kept two of the 27?? that I hatched. Not all were blrw, some were the sexlinked blue egg layers.

I can't wait to see what mine will look like.

Yes, they are from Wildwood. Mine are only 3 weeks old, so hard to tell yet.

The lightest ones seem like they may be roos - not sure. But I think I need to thin the herd!

Well, not about the color of the eggs, but that's to be expected. Hope she continues to get better.
