Meat chick order!!!! Anyone want in on the order?
We will be ordering at least 100 from Welp, all males, and will be paying only $1.37 each, and that includes shipping as some of you know.
I do not plan on getting them vaxed, so take that into consideration as well.

Vaxed?

What type of meat birds are they?

They offer vaccinating for Mareks at an additional cost.
They are Cornishx, and we will be getting all males, so we get even size at butchering.
You can take a peek at how we will be raising ours, here.

We were close to the same style last year, but this year we will be using broodies.
We did not have much issue with them. No illness, only two losses, due to trampling early on, and they grazed and foraged like crazy. The meat was so very good!

Do they have to be given to a hen to raise or can I pop them in my freezer ( it's a chick box !! lol) and let them be until they are old enough to go outside?

You can brooder box them for sure. Just so you know though, they are stinkier

With a broody hen, they learn to forage far better, hence the reason we will be giving them mommys.
They will eat less grain, which is always a plus!

True, and I know about the stinkier, I have 13 of them right now...lol I just didn't know if these ones you were getting were younger and needed a mom..

Problem is, even if I were to order, I don't forsee a trip to Willow anytime soon... Tourist season is UPON us and the store is open 7 days a weeks again... Might have to make my own order...lol

You can meet us in Wasilla on pickup day.
If you need to get them in the evening, they can be gotten at my sister in laws in Wasilla as well.
Just an option.
They will be 3 days old when they get here.

Let me ask hubby when he gets back today and see what he thinks. I am calculating freezer space too...LOL

I have a question about butchering; I want to be able to save the pelt from a few of these for taxidermy practice purposes. What do you think is the best way to butcher without ruining the skin?
