We were close to the same style last year, but this year we will be using broodies.
We did not have much issue with them. No illness, only two losses, due to trampling early on, and they grazed and foraged like crazy. The meat was so very good!
Do they have to be given to a hen to raise or can I pop them in my freezer ( it's a chick box !! lol) and let them be until they are old enough to go outside?
You can brooder box them for sure. Just so you know though, they are stinkier
With a broody hen, they learn to forage far better, hence the reason we will be giving them mommys.
They will eat less grain, which is always a plus!
