I think it was Tori that pointed this out to me once. Is be careful running with one rooster, something can happen to
him and you wont have a backup. I have been lucky so far with just Norman, but there could be a day something
could happen to him and then what....?

Just something to think about, we do live in Alaska! lol

Just did a head count as I lost one Cornish Cross last nite, I knew he wasn't going to make it.

I have 17 meat birds total, Cornish Crosses and Sexlinks.
Also two Norwegian Jaehrons that are male and probably dinner too.

I have for layers:

2 Spitzhaubens
2 Faverolles
1 New Hampshire Red
1 Rhode Island Red
1 Welsummer
1 Plymouth Barred Rock
1 Norwegian Jaehron

And I have the following that I'm not sure if they are male or female, HOPING for females so I don't have to cull the males because I have too many!
2 Polish Crested

That is a good point.... But I do have one question mark... So we'll see. Just have to get another rooster from one of you if things go south!

Unless you decide not to hatch anymore.

Ok, so we have a total of 10 Penedesenca Babies hatch from the shipped 12 eggs.
What do you guys think?
Good hatch or bad for shipped eggs?

Me and Deb R. are splitting them right down the middle. I take 5, and she takes 5.
Tori laid another egg today! Gorgeous as ever!

I candled 3 eggs today!!!
Deb, one of the ones you gave me has a BABY moving in it.
One of the ones Amy put in there had a baby moving inside also.
And then I candled the FIRST egg Tori ever laid here...
And guess what....
There was a BABY MOVING IN THERE TOO.!!!!

Also, Deb, can you call me when you get a free moment? (I know you're ultra busy), but I need to confirm something with you. It's important. Please?

I am pretty sure that the two Norwegians are boys, they are not just one spot like the girl - so if that's the case then I'll have those two and possibly a Polish that's male... we'll see what happens!!

Stupid question, do chickens have to have a rooster to lay eggs? I know that geese do....

Nope, they are independent gals, they don't need no stinkin' roo!

I like to have one roo, justfor the crow, seeing that I don't breed, I don't need a "back-up plan."

Good to know, I thought so, but wasn't sure. Geese are different, you also can't force geese to lay thru the winter like you can chickens.

Do any of you have ducks??? Would be nice to connect with some other Alaskans with ducks. I have 8 runner eggs in the incubator and today is Day 27 and I have 4 little indents. (Wanna be Pips) Hopefully they are pips soon. I have 6 adult runners (5 females, and one drake)
