I've been most happy with my Dellies and Orpingtons for meat birds. Not as rolly-polly as the cornish, and not as fast, but they taste the same.

Kinda like chicken.

Thank you Tori..We have been running on fumes here for the last week... But he got to live it out at home and I am so glad we were able to help him do that. He was a cool and very gifted musician.​

So sorry to hear about your dad...... I know that is rough...(lost mine to Cancer in Dec. 2008 and had only known him 4 years)



My hubby made it home, before I made the feedstore, Ordered Chicks or got the ones in the incubator to hatch! hmmmmm (wonder if he has chick radar?)....

though we did laugh about the feedstore, I am going there today! and if they have any interesting chicks I may bring a few home *but with the incubator fully loaded and another batch awaiting in the Kitchen, I don't think there will be many bought at the feed store.
I need to get another auto-turner, and 2 replacement wafers, then the 100 egg Brower could be the hatcher and I would have 2 LG for incubating. decisions decisions.

I also discussed a "Glen Highway Chicken Tour" with my hubby; to meet a few Alaskan BYCers..... though it will be much later in the season.....unless something around here changes drastically!

Long day today.
We closed off the run from the chickens and opened them a new one. I re-seeded the old run and hopefully by next spring it'll be like new. They think they're in heaven lol.
Unfortunately, in order for this to happen, they are sharing space with the baby goats. No one cares, but the goats love the chicken food for some reason. So I had to devise a way for the chickens to get into the coop, but not the goats. Two pallets and a skill saw later...they still were getting in!
Note to self, goats can crawl through small holes.
My wonderful DH came up with a plan and started cutting the bottom of a square cat litter bucket off. His theory being that goats don't like tunnels. The square bucket fit just right and the goats won't go through it! It isn't pretty, but it's only for the summer.


Tomorrow is ship day for the meat birds.

I had pips, they popped, now i have BABIES!! Still waiting on another duck, but they werent really due til tomorrow so hes not late yet, the others were early! one by two days!!
