I am so sorry for your loss! I don't understand why people feel the need to steal birds. What is this world coming to? I'll be on the lookout if any lavender cockerels show up on auction sites, shows, etc. Were there any wingbands on him or other identification?

If I understand correctly you came home from visiting your husband in the hospital. "Someone" obviously knew you left and wouldn't be back in a short time. Do you have any chicken neighbors closeby? Anyone that likes your silkies? I'm kinda wondering why they wouldn't have also taken your silkies before the dogs killed them. Seems like they had your rooster earmarked for stealing and knew just where you kept him. I hope this jars your memory of someone who might have done the deed. Too many rotten people in the world and they seem to spawn alot of clones.

So very sorry you had to go thru this on top of other major concerns. Hope your husband will be home soon.

Omg, I don't believe this! How can anyone stoop so darn low as a human being. This is another reason why I refuse to allow others onto this property and come to think of it after meeting a few close by I've determined that they now know where I live since I must make a uturn in order to get back to the house. I must thank my lucky stars that I free range all of my chickens on 3 acres including 2 with nothing but woods and with hopes that they'll never ever walk up to a stranger like they do me. What the scary part is is that everyone that has ever looked at my flock on my FB page has all stated that I have beautiful chickens. Wow, you now have me in a panic mode over possible theft of my birds.

I usually don't mind people coming to our house, but it's mostly because we just have average birds. But now that we have a real blue ameraucana roo, and we're working on project birds, I'm thinking from now on, we're meeting at the closest store (the ONLY store within 15 miles).

Thanks for posting this.

Good luck in finding your roo. He's bound to show up. Anyone going through all of that didn't do it for the stew pot. I'm sure your local BYCers will keep an eye out for you at all fairs, shows, exhibitions, etc. Keep us posted!

get better, real dogs... so the local ring of dog theives they broke up and found hundreds of stolen pure bred dogs, after the two men died, have just made pet thieves just move onto chickens? sure, now i have to worry about more than redneck neighbors, and their free breeding and roaming cats and dogs, wanting to eat my birds or try to use them for cock fighting!
