Alfalfa Horse Pellets

My suggestions, your mileage may vary:
1. Stick with your commercial bagged chicken feed designed for the right life stage of your chickens. Age differences? Different stages of laying? Then a Flock Raiser or all-flock formula will cover all the bases. Provide it free-choice to them (in more than one feeder if you have several chickens) and I'm prettty certain they'll regulate their intake.
2. Wanting to add more "greens" to their diet with this Heat Bomb we're enduring here in Texas? Yes, all the grass my hens usually forage on is yellow, brown and dried up now. TSC has bagged, chopped alfalfa and bagged, chopped timothy grass. Take a couple fist fulls of the chop, soak in some water, squeeze out and toss for them to pick through. As mentioned by someone, if you use alf or tim hay chop they'll be able to bypass the tough stems and get to the smaller bits. IMHO I would not feed forage pellets --too hard for them to utilize, even broken.
