I found 4 chicks locally on craigslist from a breeder. I'm not even sure what breeds they are... at this point I am not going to be picky!

(Lol, my luck I picked all roos!!!

)
But they were about the same age and size (and appeared healthy... normally I would quarantine, but I guess desperate times call for desperate measures!)
The little one went from stressed and chirping constantly to following their lead and pecking and drinking. Everyone survived the night, and were active and behaving normally this morning, with no apparent pecking order issues.
Just to be safe, I will be quarantining all of them before putting them out with the rest of my flock.
Good tips for the mirror and feather duster! Thank you. I have used both for years (even in normal situations) and they are definitely chick favorites, especially if you don't have a broody hen to snuggle under.

I also have a small stuffed animal "fake chick" that I put in with him.
I am appalled that this happened, but I guess the silver lining is that I've been raising and hatching chickens for a number of years now and it wasn't my first batch. I can't imagine if this had happened with my very first batch.
ChickieChickieMama, I'm sorry for your loss. It's always heartbreaking to open the box and find any dead or even sick/weak chicks. Good luck with your new little ones!
And thanks again to all!
