All EASTER EGGER lovers unite!!!!!!

Christmaschicken, Your Goldie looks just like my twins, Chip and Dale! They looked liked chipmunks when they were chicks! Mine have that same funny looking comb. Looks like it melted! I have a silly question. What makes it an Easter Egger? Does it mean any mixed breed chicken (dare I say Mutt!)?

I have 2 EEs. They both are lame/disabled. I got them last September when I got my other day old chicks. They both came from Meyer Hatchery. Last April, Delilah began to limp and then would hardly walk. I Isolated her for a couple of weeks, tried splinting and extra vitamins. There were no signs of injury, and I researched as many foot problems as I could. My only other EE, Jane, developed the same problem a couple of weeks later.
The only thing I can figure out, is that they may have had some type of deficiency (Thiamine is my guess) at a critical stage of development or it may just be some genetic fluke. All of my other chicks came from the same place at the same time and are all healthy.
All that being said, I love my EEs. They have their own condo, attached to the main coop out back. They don't have to compete for food or anything. They are the first to get treats, are very tame, and are spoiled. They walk a little on their knuckles. They get to free range some when I am with them (I am very protective of them)
I would like to get more EEs in the future, these girls lay the most popular eggs of all!

Mine started about 2 weeks ago making her around 19 wks old.

Thanks christmaschicken, I can't wait to get my green/blue eggs. I think I will put the nexting box's in soon so they get used to them. I need to get off of the computer. I have 100 ears of corn to do and backyardchickens isn't helping me.

Ginbart... I know this sounds funny but when we built our coop, my husband was in the middle of doing a re-model of a kitchen I saw the old kitchen cabinets in his trailer he was going to pitch them. I said cant we attach them somehow to make nesting boxes? He said we sure can and so that is what we used...

It worked out great and they LOVE THEM.....

OH-I love her little scarf. I saw a little tiny dog costume for Halloween in Pet Smart yesterday and I almost bought it for my Cockerels. I have 3 and I thought, I could get at least one of them to stand still in a devil suit long enough for me to snap a few pictures! But then I remembered that in 2 months they will be twice the size and I will need to buy the medium dog size. I will need to do some rooster handling between now and Halloween.

Hey-one of your eggs looks lavender colored!

We have one solid Blue EE (DELILAH) and she is our favorite out of our 6 girls we hatched.........

She has personality, looks and the plus of wondering what color eggs she will lay is exciting--she should be thinking about laying any day--LOL!

She has wonderful muff feathers and a beard....
However the other hens peck on her...but she is learning how to stand her ground and frequently steals their treats!

Next go around--I think we'll go with all Easter Eggers!!

Have fun enjoying yours--Ann

I figured they were cut out jugs but I wanted to know what she was using them for. I need something for oyster shell. Everything I use they turn over.

I was just wondering if they would work for oyster shell. I think I will try them nailed to the wall. At least they wont turn them over then. ;}
