I have 2 EEs. They both are lame/disabled. I got them last September when I got my other day old chicks. They both came from Meyer Hatchery. Last April, Delilah began to limp and then would hardly walk. I Isolated her for a couple of weeks, tried splinting and extra vitamins. There were no signs of injury, and I researched as many foot problems as I could. My only other EE, Jane, developed the same problem a couple of weeks later.
The only thing I can figure out, is that they may have had some type of deficiency (Thiamine is my guess) at a critical stage of development or it may just be some genetic fluke. All of my other chicks came from the same place at the same time and are all healthy.
All that being said, I love my EEs. They have their own condo, attached to the main coop out back. They don't have to compete for food or anything. They are the first to get treats, are very tame, and are spoiled. They walk a little on their knuckles. They get to free range some when I am with them (I am very protective of them)
I would like to get more EEs in the future, these girls lay the most popular eggs of all!
