Thanks. Only problem I have had with the Purina Flock Raiser is sometimes I'll get a batch that is a mustard-y yellow color instead of the usual pale olive drab (the difference is especially noticeable when I wet it for fermentation). There have been a few times when the chickens wouldn't even eat the yellow batches, dry or fermented, and I had to take them back and go to a different store to find a batch the 'correct' color.

Well that sure isn't good. There are other brands that make an all flock though Nutrena is one I believe.

Purina Flock raiser has been fine here for decades! I always check the mill date on each bag, and only buy fresh. Feed stores will sell old stuff if they can, so watch every bag of whatever you buy every time. I much prefer there open dating too, and resent companies who use 'code' so the actual mill date isn't obvious. I don't remember who they are, sorry.

Many companies got nailed years ago over the melamine from China disaster, and that problem seems to be over.
If you check the FDA or CDC or veterinary organization websites, or google 'pet food recalls' or 'pet food problems' there are ongoing issues with multiply companies over food safety.
Livestock feed is better regulated than pet food, as far as I can see...

Probably because pets are not used to ultimately feed people (at least not in the U.S.)

Which is why chickens are in the 'livestock' category, not the same as 'pet caged birds'.

Actually two different companies.
Purina Animal Nutrition is owned by Land O'Lakes, Animal feed.
Nestle owns Purina Pet feeds.

I read that Land O'Lakes Inc, asked Purina pet feeds for permission to use the Purina name, before Nestle S.A. bought Purina Pet feeds.

Does anyone know the difference between these two?? Both Nutrena all flock, both 18% protein... other than the fact that the Nutrena Country off Amazon is hella more expensive ($47).. but it looks like Rural King has it for $12.00 so that's a real head scratcher..

JK I'm finding that the Nutrena Naturewise looks like maybe it's supposed to be a more "all natural" feed. Couple bucks more for 10 lbs less.

When I looked up Purina Flock raiser on Amazon, it was $50 with 'free shipping' for 50#. The same bag was $16.5 at my local TSC. Amazing! Free shipping!
