All My Chickens..... a coop opera!

No need to explain how it happened- we all know- Chicken Math. Right now, I have 8 hens and only wanted 5. Two are special needs- Missy an elder (Mottled Orpington - see avatar - over 5 yrs old who only lays very rarely) and Margaret a 2.5 yr old BCM crossbeak with blind eye who lays bloody eggs about 3x a week. The working hens who lay the eggs I use are Abigail, Deb who are 6 month old Lakeshore eggers and Lily who is a 6 month old Austra White. they lay eggs like champs. To be rehomed are Aunt Boo- a 1.5 yr old Speckled Sussex, Freida, a 1.5 yr old Lt Brown Leghorn and Bonnie a 6 month old Lakeshore Egger. These are great chickens and a starter pack for my niece. So now, with only 3 layers, I need more babies....chicken math.

So nice to have you here! Wow.. three times a week bloody eggs!? Poor girl!

Morning my fren! They do grow so fast but on one hand I like that cuz things are just easier when they are out with the whole flock!

It really is easier once they're all integrated. I'm about to give up hope of getting any new chicks this year, but I'm okay with that. If I don't get any now, I will just place an order for after the first of the year, before they sell out of everything I want.

We were able to have lunch with my daughter & her husband after we landed back in Spokane. Then we went & looked at a townhouse they are hoping to buy. So, it made for an enjoyable afternoon.

Love the bottom part but sad on the top part.... do they sell chicks at the stores near you? Or do you just want the specific breeds?

They sell chicks at the feed stores...the problem is they are an hour away & I can't always get there when they are available. They seem to be selling out just as fast as they did last year. Yes, I also want specific breeds, so that makes it harder.

Oh yea.. I get it... it has been hard catching them when they have them.. they have definitely been going quick this year!
