All My Chickens..... a coop opera!

Good morning all. 🌞

I am certain we are not the top of her list when she has access to power.

Is anyone else wondering how you would do without power and internet for weeks?

Well not wondering, more like remembering. I have lived that for two weeks at a time around Sandy and one other big NJ storm.
But it is worse in LA - they have terrible heat and destruction to contend with too. Just horrible.
For me lack of water was a bigger issue than lack of light. I had filled huge containers of water in preparation and also used rainwater a fair bit.
Even once everything was back on I struggled to ‘give up’ my clean water containers. Just in case.
I am really worried about her. So many people have lost everything.

I take it you have a well and need power to pump your water then. Did you consider getting a generator after Sandy?

Indeed I did get a generator after Sandy and yes - I have a well so no power = no water.
Everyone said I was nuts getting a generator after Sandy - it was a 100 year storm and all that.
But it is the best investment I ever made! It isn't whole house (just circuits that matter like the well pump and the freezers) but it is natural gas and switches on automatically. I love that thing and it gets way more use than you would imagine. Probably every month I lose power for one reason or another - usually only a few hours but enough to make me thankful.
In LA even people who had generators installed are struggling because they have cut off the gas supply to many areas for reasons of safety and I think rationing. Ugh!

I once had no power for five days (considered an utter travesty in the press) but I loved it. It was inconvenient in terms of showers and food, but I took the opportunity to rely on family and we all loved seeing more of each other. Everything was so quiet and peaceful. Because of the way we privatised the grid, a few months later a lovely cheque came through the post to compensate me for the inconvenience. So it was the gift that kept on giving.

I've come back to add that the only time I lived through a serious storm was in Hong Kong. The strong wind that took the power out for a few days here in Adelaide would have been like a baby's sneeze compared to the big storm whodat has just had.
