Almost pecked to death...can she be saved? UPDATE

Columbia has done amazingly well. Yesterday we moved her to her new home outside. She has her own coop and run. She isn't 100% healed, but we felt that she would do better outside in the fresh air...that and the bathroom was starting to stink.

Here she is before she got moved outside. She wouldn't hold still.

She is a silver lace wynadotte. She is a sweetheart.

We are not sure who started the pecking, because we have a mixed flock: RIR, White Leghorn, Buff Orpington, SLW, Rosecomb bantam, OEGB, EE, Golden Compine. She had a small wound on her head and the other girls took advantage. We learned our lesson there...no wounded in with the flock.

It seems that she can see out of her eye that we were sure was lost. Her top eyelid doesn't close properly, but the under lid thingy does.

I think she has some brain damage. She does better eating when I wet her food down so it sticks together. She has a hard time picking up crumbles without them being wet. She also walks a bit funny. I see improvement every day. I am so thankful that we found her before they killed her.

I hope that se can make a full recovery and return to the rest of the flock someday. For now, she is by herself. We are thinking of putting one of the bantams who is always picked on in with her, but not for a few more weeks at least. Her head still has one spot that is a bit weepy and I want more feathers to come in too.

Thats a good idea to give her a friend they need interaction with others of their own kind and she will thrive better with a friend. awesome set up ya'll made for her..

Extra nutrition will help her repair hurt parts - Avia Charge 2000 in the water (to light tea color - can order on line). I missed whether you were giving antibiotics - I would think a good idea. And then yogurt to mitigate - can put bits of yummy fruit in the yogurt to entire her. Mealworms - yum. Her spirits should lift with mealworms.

Thank you for this thread! I introduced some newer chicks to my growing chicks and was was pecked nearly to death. I removed her from the area placed the other newbies by themselves and brought her inside where I cleaned her wound with a q tip and put lots of antibiotic ointment on, wrapped her in a small dishcloth and used a dropper.for water Good news is, she is still breathing, drinking water from the dropper and shakes her head after the antibiotic ointment was put on, but best of all she still does little chirps. Now she is snug in a ventilated box hopefully on her way to recovery
