Always shoot coyotes?

playing with them? naw, I own a weim thats 110 lbs and a pit/dalmation mix thats about 60 and ive turned them loose in my pastures and had 2 try to attack them (wasn't a good try my weim destroyed them) neither had rabies, plenty of rabbits, birds, chickens and calfs out there. they will deff go after a dog if given a chance. they were built to kill and survive.

Here in South Carolina, it is my understanding, that coyotes have become so numerous and such a nuisance that there is a shoot to kill anytime order on it. Meaning it is open season, as far as the Dept of Natural Resources is concerned. As far as I'm concerned, you are protecting your flock, you do what is necessary.

Coyotes are a problem for ranchers here in Central Florida and most of them have a full time hunter to just thin them out. So, I guess I dont have a real problem with killing them, even though I have seen them around, I have not shot any. My real question is, if you have a very secure setup, why shoot anything? We see Bobcats around all of the time and we will not shoot them. Just think we have an obligation to protect our flocks, but also an obligation to live with the other living things we share the land with.

My rule is that as long as they don't bother me and mine, I leave them be. Not every predator will come after your birds. Save your bullets for the ones that do.

My area is chuck full of coyotes. Instead of trying to kill them, I keep my pets and poultry in a secure manner. I haven't had any loses. I don't have coyotes trying to break in, so I leave them alone.

I've got at least one raccoon on this block. He's never shown any interest in the birds, so I don't bother him. If he starts trying to break into the coop, then that changes things. But he hasn't, so I've got no reason to defend myself from him.

The local coyotes do me a service. They eliminate all the stray cats and dogs that have been dumped out here "to go live on a farm" so that I don't have to deal with them. They keep the rodents under control. They get at least a few of the nuisance over-populated deer. And I'm sure they are the reason that there is only one raccoon in the area.

I try not to upset the balance of nature any more than I have to. I'll protect my own, but not until I am provoked into it.

same way here we do not have any season or limit on private land most people want them gone so the domestic animals will not be eaten or diseased by the yotes most folks around me kill them year round the less there are of them the more fear they have of humans

Here in New England the coyote does not have a predator(except for us humans). We shoot to kill. I can honestly say I have never seen a coyote that wanted to play.
