Hello,
We're new to having chickens and think one of our ladies may be a dude. Reba, the Rhode Island Red here has grown large and wakes us up with a cock-a-doodle doo.. Any chance an expert can weigh in?
Thanks!
Brendan

Does this chicken try and mount the hens? That’s a tell tale sign. They might and a crow and rid bit session is a five away. I see a large comb and waddle so I think it’s a roo

Crowing hens do happen. Sometimes it's because there isn't a roo present. Sometimes it's a hormonal thing. Friends who have had chickens longer than I told me of a hen they had with huge spurs who laid huge eggs. I think you have a rooster but if it lays an egg its a hen. when you bought them were they labeled pullets or straight run
