Someone posted on here that most of their money go's towards food for the animals. PROBLEM! I agree with MZPLACEDHIPPIE. My friend has 5 dogs, fish and a turtle. Her electricity is shut off at least a few times a year and they are always behind on rent! She has 3 children! Problem!!!
I started chickens because I wanted healthy free range chickens and eggs for cheaper-thus saving money. But If they do not pay for themselves within a year and I am struggling then they will be rehomed. If I had a few acres-someday- I would get goats and such. Small farm living PAYS OFF. Small overrun with animals living does NOT!
There is always a limit. Make sure you know yours. I will be at my limit in a few weeks when I get my last chickens. I will NOT buy anymore! My 1 dog and 9 chickens will be my total on 1/4 acre.
