Am I crazy? *long rant/vent*

Poor thing, I could not imagine living in or close to Raleigh. Sanford is big enough for me. I pray that your situation will change and that you can get the land in the country you so desire.

Go for it! But, make sure it is the right property for you. Right now it might seem like a lot of land, but in a few years you might want more, or might want more privacy than 5 acres can offer.
You should have quite a bit of equity built up in your home. Have it appraised and see what you have to work with.
The sense of peace that comes from not having close neighbors and all of the drama is well worth the effort. When I first moved out here I couldn't believe how much stress just disappeared. I got the biggest kick out of walking to my mailbox or back to the barn to check on horses in my PJ's....lol.
My husband was happy where we were in the suburbs. We lived there for 18 years, the plan was to buy the house, improve it sell it and then buy our farm. But, life got in the way of our dreams...kids...jobs. The house had all of the improvements in and was easy to upkeep. So the hubby didn't care if we moved into the country or not.
After a very obnoxious family moved in and upset the entire neighborhood I had my fill of suburban living and started looking at farms. Hubby dragged his feet, but I told him that for my own peace of mind, I needed some space around me. I grew up on a farm and knew how peaceful the lifestyle was.
10 years later, and hubby still says that it was the best move we ever made. He will never go back to the city or suburbs. We met some really great friends out here and the few neighbors we do have on the road are like us, in that we help each other out when needed, but we don't hang out together like people do in the suburbs. None of us have the time for that...and like it this way!
You might have to take the lead, like I did. I found this farm and really pushed the move, but now that we are here we are both happy!

My kids are military brats and have gotten moved a LOT! I mean 7 times in the last 9 years and we've lived 3 years at our current home and 3 years at the last one.... They're fine and dealing with it. Our last move landed us here, plop in the middle of the country living and they LIKE living with the animals and no nosey, noisey neighbors more than anywhere else we lived!

I say go for it!!!!!

I went to college in Sanford. CCCC for the vet med tech program. Got almost half-way through and couldn't finish (long story.)

Anyway, I wonder if Sanford has changed much since <cough, cough, cough> '86/'87 when I lived there.

Girl you are not crazy at all. Our familiy moved from Florida(due to hubby job)where we lived in a 2500sqf house with a gazilion rooms to Ohio. We bought the house in Ohio it is only 1050sqf but has a basement and a extra lot on the side and most important it is in a older neighborhood from the mid 50's to mid 60's. It dont have prissy arrogat neighbors they all introduced themselves with the first names. They are mexican , jamaican, italian, white, black......its a working class neighborhood.
THe lady from across the street talked with me for 30 min. about my chickens and ducks and the traffic around here... the only thing i would move for is a small ranch back in Kentucky(we prop. retire there) out in the sticks..

edit : and most important : NO PESKY HOME OWNERS ASSCIATION!!!!

We moved to the COUNTRY - almost a year ago - from living in San diego, to middle of nowhere Nebraska - and we couldn't be happier. We have 3 acres, the house is a little bigger than we had in San Diego, and of course we have a basement for the tornados...

My kids are 8 and 4, and loving it..... my 8 year old was a little sad to leave his friends, but he had made new ones within a week of starting school here, and now he knows practically everyone in the town (we live just outside of town)

I was dreading the winter, and although being freezing cold for months wasn't fun - the stress of not being so TOTALLY worried about my childrens safety makes up for that 10 fold.. and my kids have SO much room to run around and play, we have the horse and goat and chickens.... planting veggies and flowers....

Life is wonderful....

I love your way of thinking! I try to think that way too but sometimes I get a little unnerved about certain things (like when they leave dishes on the counter instead of putting them in the dishwasher...)
But you are so right, as a stay at home mom it IS my job...and I often have to remind myself of that:>) And I DO LOVE my job!

Are you in WF (the community) by chance?

Hey, it could be worse. At least we aren't in Cary with all their crazy restrictions. I'd be

I had to laugh when I read this because I just said yesterday I would give up everything (big 4 br house, corvette, brand new car, and 1970 chevelle ss +++ more) and live in a trailer for the land. I want a farm so bad:(. So if your crazy I am right with you.
