I get my chicks Thursday. And I’m a nervous first time chicken mama so I’m a little paranoid I’m forgetting something. I have the coop(of course) which I’m using as the brooder as well since it has been pretty warm here. I have my brooder plate, thermometer and waterer, the feeder is coming today. I’m picking up feed and bedding Wednesday. Is there anything else I absolutely must have before they get here?! I’m ordering a small roost and a camera.

Sounds like a great setup! Good luck with your chicks. I would recommend chick grit.

If I start them on crumble do I need it?i didn’t think I did but I was thinking about getting it.
I hide it under there shavings so they can start to develop foraging skills early on. As they get older I add extra treats. You don’t have to use it but it’s something that has worked well for me.

They only need grit if they eat anything besides their crumble. I like to provide grit if they will have any access outdoors, or if I am raising them in bedding. Good luck!
