Not that it helps, but possums put themselfs in a comatose state when they're in distress.

I shot it with a very powerful pellet gun. It was over very quickly. And there is one less chicken killer around my coop. I have my trap reset. The dead possum has been buried 3 feet down in the middle of our woods.

I do agree that drowning is not a good thing to do; I use our 22g and it's very fast.
Relocating critters to state wildlife areas is illegal in Michigan. Relocation is allowed on the same property, or to private land within the same county, with landowner permission. ONLY!

Thank you! It was my first time . I'm ashamed to say, it felt pretty gratifying that, as an extreme animal lover my whole life, I was able to actually do it.

I've heard of people drowning nuisance animals. Mostly skunks, so they don't get sprayed.

Sorry for the loss and glad you caught the critter. A branch came down from storms and opened up a one foot hole in my aviary netting. I've caught a raccoon and a skunk in the past week. Both gone now. Now the run smells like skunk. One less varmint to bother your birds. Hope the others heal quickly.

Set the trap again last night. Didn't get anything, so hopefully, that means I got the right culprit!
