Am I the only one who threatens hens/pullets with freezer camp?

You have sound like ya mean it..;)
:lau:gig

But, but, I already told them from the start that they could stay here for as long as they live!

(My visiting mother disagrees... when I noted that the chickens weren't laying for the season she asked if I wanted to have them butchered, because she'd be happy to do so while visiting!)

Even if I threatened mine they know I'm lying. Freeloaders, all of them!
:lau Think mine have it figured out too for now. Freezer camp will happen one of these days, just not at this time. Older hens were taken in cause I couldn't stand the thought of them being culled cause they were unwanted. They were laying eggs in front of our mower under it's covered frame.

Well.. I guess you're bound by yer word then! :D
So have they just recently quit for the winter? I wouldn't butcher mine for that either. They do need a break after all..;)

Will have to do when the time comes older ones are 4, will know this spring/summer how bad they have slowed down. Once that is known then I can plan on getting replacement chicks.

All of my 8 month old EE girls are molting and quit laying. They look dreadful. My year old BCM is molting. The 2 younger BCM haven’t started laying yet. So only my Buff Orpingtons, Silver Laced Wyandottes & Brahma are still laying consistently. And either the Gold or Black Sexlink.

While I haven’t threatened to off anyone yet...... I hope they get over their molting soon. We went from 10-14 eggs per day to 3-5. I did up their protein in their feed so hopefully that helps.
