Ameracauna???

Ameracuanas are a breed, ok then tell me this, why is that each and every time I get eggs to hatch from those that tell me "I got them from ____ hatchery" and "they are full bloods". Then I hatch said eggs and every time get EEs. Maybe a few look true, the rest of each of these hatches has produced birds that look RIR and white leghorn?
I also see these hatchery's subbing RIR and production reds. So maybe these folks actually got EEs and were told they bought Ameracuanas,,,,and who would know unless they are breeding,,,

Unfortunetly, most Hatcheries sell EEs as Ameracaunas because Ams are more expensive. The average chicken keeper is buying the bird not knowing the standard of perfection (SOP) regarding any breed, so that's why most people eventually start saying that they have a so-n-so breed, but hatchery stock. My BJG is a beautiful bird, but she's hatchery stock, so she's about as big as my brahmas, who are hatchery stock so they're barely bigger than my other girls.
If you want an actual, true Ameracauna you have to go to a breeder that breeds to the SOP. If you want to find one of those you have to go to their breeder's clubs. IDK their actual equivilant to the AKC or UKC... but I found this after a quick google search:

Actually many hatcheries market their EEs as Americauna perhaps to fool people into believing that they are getting pure Ameraucana, so yes, many people buying these birds as chicks from hatcheries and breeding them and selling their eggs will be mistakenly misrepresenting them and in fact you are just buying EE eggs. A true breeder will be able to show you photos of their breeding stock so that you can see that they conform to SOP and specify what colour will hatch from the eggs they sell you.

For me these hatchery's have very simply eliminated their offerings, I cannot buy from a business that I do not trust, and they have certainly lost my trust! May as well buy off CL,,,, at least I can see what they look like etc..

There are 'untruths' in marketing everywhere.... it's nothing new.
One of the best and hardest lessons I had to teach my children was how to spot the lies in advertising and fully parsing information before accepting any 'lines'.

I can think of so many adages that were spurred by such.
'Buyer Beware'.
'There's a sucker born every minute'.
'There is no free lunch'.
...etc,etc,etc.
Just gotta get savvy to the product you are shopping for,
and read the fine print,
before pulling out your wallet.

Oops, sorry, kinda went on and on there.
It's one of my biggest pet peeves.

The Ameraucana/EE thing is really aggravating,
especially when the feed mills and farm stores perpetuate the hatcheries 'line'.
I just call them AmerauKindas....or at my mill ArauKindas.

LOL, kinda relates here, a friend bought a new FORD pick up, one of the small ones. I kept telling him it is a Mazda to which he would argue to no end. Then he needed windshield wiper blades, OEM item,, came in a Mazda box. He sold it within 2 weeks. Until then he had a great little truck,,,,
But you are correct this misleading crap is everywhere.

I strongly encourage people to be their own best defense. Learn about the basic characteristics of any breed you are interested in. Know the toe count, facial/leg feathering status, skin color, comb type, down (for chicks) or plumage (for feathered ages) color and pattetn, etc. This goes a long way in being able to spot the clues as to what a bird is or isnt, because misrepresentations (accidental and intentional) happen. Same goes for being able to assess characteristics of gender to avoid unwittingly being sold a bird tthat someone else would know is a gender other than what you're being told
