Ameracuna Vs EE

What I find interesting is sometimes the local stores selling the chicks don't even know there is a difference. I recently saw at a local farm store they had Americauna's. I asked the employees at the store if they were pure americauna's or Easter eggers. The woman looked at me sideways and said "there's a difference"? I could tell by the cost of the chick it was an EE but it's sad they don't know their own products.
I explain this to my customers ALL the time. This was actually how I found the woman I am getting my birds from. Many customers were trying to sell me 'Americana' chicks and that the parents laid eggs of every color under the sun. I told her those were EE's and she nodded like "correct.' I then told her EE's are not Ameraucana and I am looking for Ameraucana chicks only. The breeder I AM buying from showed me pictures of her hens and roosters and her chicks. She has 4 breeding pens, blue, wheaton, blue wheaton, and black. I don't know what colored hens I want from her. Choices >.<

So many choices! I'd crack and get some of all. I have no self discipline! Lol

This is what I might do too xD and then go find a white hen as well. I want at least a black hen so I can breed her to the Black Copper Maran rooster I am hunting for and make my own olive eggers. I could keep some nice dark looking chicks who lay green eggs and breed a 3rd gen out of them for super dark eggs. I also want to breed for lighter green eggs and mint green eggs but haven't thought of the rooster's I'll use for those ones. I figured why buy olive eggers hoping they will lay true when I can breed my own and keep the ones who lay what I want.

That's awesome! I plan to try that eventually. I Gotta hatch and grow all of the eggs and chicks first. Lol

Ok so now I'm going to sound foolish but, there are different varieties of the Americauna? I would love to get at least 1 pure bred. Well maybe 2, they should have a friend. Lol

This site has the accepted colors along with lots of pictures or chicks, hens, and roosters. http://ameraucanaalliance.org/photos.html

I think price is a good indicator but one of the the best clues to making sure you are getting a true AM is whether or not a color/verity is listed. If the breeder/seller can't tell you what color they are then you should just assume they are EEs. If they say they have lots of colors and they are running around together then they are EEs, even if the parents are actually AM.

"They Should Have a Friend" ...That's the line that got me into having a whole chicken farm! Lol.

Same here. So much so I actually bought this T-shirt for both my husband and me.

GAAAAAAAH the whites are so beautiful. I want to find a breeder who has them so bad, that and silver too >.<

I am getting an EE from Meyer's and after reading the reviews on how many of them lay brown eggs on their site I am nervous. At least my cream legbars and Ameraucana from the breeder will lay blue eggs but if the EE doesn't lay blue eggs I hope she will at least look nice.

Do you know of a reputable breeder that will ship without ordering double digit amounts? I really don't need anymore chickens but I think my tshirt above sums it up.

Admitted Chicken addict.
