I explain this to my customers ALL the time. This was actually how I found the woman I am getting my birds from. Many customers were trying to sell me 'Americana' chicks and that the parents laid eggs of every color under the sun. I told her those were EE's and she nodded like "correct.' I then told her EE's are not Ameraucana and I am looking for Ameraucana chicks only. The breeder I AM buying from showed me pictures of her hens and roosters and her chicks. She has 4 breeding pens, blue, wheaton, blue wheaton, and black. I don't know what colored hens I want from her. Choices >.<What I find interesting is sometimes the local stores selling the chicks don't even know there is a difference. I recently saw at a local farm store they had Americauna's. I asked the employees at the store if they were pure americauna's or Easter eggers. The woman looked at me sideways and said "there's a difference"? I could tell by the cost of the chick it was an EE but it's sad they don't know their own products.
