Ameraucana 13 week old chickens...What is the Gender????

Thank you for all your responses. As I said, I am new to the Ameraucana line and do not like being cheated. I will have another hatchery take a look at my chickens to confirm the EE theory and go from there on getting my money back. I did however figure that they were male. Which is also disappointing because I now have 3 hens out of 12 chickens ordered. Very disappointing. I am going to add better photos today so everyone can have a better look.

There is no hatchery or feed store or TSC or Rural King, etc. that will sell actual Ameraucanas, no matter matter what they call them. Some hatcheries call them Americanas, some call them Ameraucanas, some call them Araucanas, but every single hatchery is selling Easter Eggers. The more honest hatcheries will put "not for showing" or something similar in the description. The only place you're going to get actual Ameraucanas is from a breeder.

MMM, like most hatcheries, guarantees a 90% success rate in sexing, so if you ordered pullets and got this many cockerels, they'll refund your money happily. If you ordered straight run, that's all on you. It's the luck of the draw. I, myself, got three pullets out of a straight run batch of 13 chicks this spring. Just because there's a 50% probability that something will happen does not mean it will happen 50% of the time... we've all tossed a coin and had it come down heads six times in a row, for example.

i have Four 10 wk old rir's Is there anyway to tell if they are Male/Female

At that age, the difference should be pretty clear. The males will have bigger redder combs and should have pointed saddle and hackle feathers coming in. If you aren't sure, start a new thread in the "what breed or gender is this?" forum and post some photos.

The one on the top pic looks to be a rooster. The one on the bottom looks like a hen to me. You really have to look at feather paterns. Ameraucana Roosters have an irregular feather pattern
Heres my ameraucana roo henry ( I suspect he may be an Easter egger thats just what I was told he was). See the crazy splotches of color. He is 12 weeks. Not much comb development.
My EE hens have uniform feathering.

There is at least ONE hatchery that sells true Ameraucanas. I doubt they are show quality by any means. But, my opinion is the price is astronomical.

If you are paying $2-$3 for chicks that are advertised as Ameraucanas, you are getting Easter Eggers.

Meyer has actual Ameraucanas - and, as MPC sources from them, so does MPC. They also sell EE. You pay for the Ameraucana - and they have limited variety - blue (which would be B/B/S) and, I believe, Wheaten.

This is an old thread yall. I don't think they were selling pure ameraucanas 2 years ago.
No, they weren't. I stand by my post of two years ago... and also say that Meyer does indeed now sell purebred Ameraucanas as of 2014. They are about $20 each for a sexed pullet chick.

Also, John Blehm of the Ameraucana Alliance sells purebred Ameraucanas through his Fowl Stuff hatchery. They are $10-ish each, straight run--but be sure to put in your order as soon as he opens up his 2016 ordering, as he sells out extremely early.

No offense was intended - was merely attempting to provide information that was correct now so that those reading the now quoted post could have information as to where they *could* find true Ameracauna from a hatchery/retailer. Things change and while the post was certainly correct for the time there was more current information that I thought would be helpful.
