Ameraucana hen or rooster?

It's an Easter Egger, but that doesn't mean you should love it any less. They are still a GREAT breed! I have both Ameraucanas and Easter eggers, and one thing that EE's have on Ameraucanas is uniqueness. I do agree with the others in that it's a cockerel, I usually don't notice any sort of comb growth in my hens until they are close to laying.

Funny thing is, I wanted Easter Eggers to begin with and the local shops didn't have them in yet. I already bought my Barred Rock and Buff Orpington 2 weeks prior and didn't want to wait any longer. I love them all, although I don't want a rooster.

I agree 100% with CiaBia it’s an EE and a cockerel

Looks like a cockerel to me. Red is coming in on the wings and shoulders, and the comb is big for 8 weeks.

So what do you think about the other EE I have? Hen or Roo?

It almost worked out for you then! Too bad it's not a hen. I did for a time have an EE roo over my laying hens of various breeds, and I got some really cool looking chicks from the mix, many of which retained the blue egg laying gene from the father.

As far as my experience from buying EEs from stores, I once bought 10 EE pullets, 8 of which turned into roo's. Fun times!

Don't mean to be the bearer of bad news
Though the comb is smaller, I think I see some saddle feathers starting to grow, which would point to cockerel as well. They are the lighter orange pointed feathers between the break of the tail. I would keep an eye on those to see if more develop in the coming weeks.

I have learned so much in buying and raising just 4 chicks it's amazing. This is after reading 2 books and online literature. The forum here is the best! Thanks again.

It figures. I bought these 2 just for the grandkids because of the colored eggs.

Although it does look a bit henish to me. No real waddles showing.....stature looks like my hens do. Roos will tend to stand taller in the tail not downward.......

Bearding, such as this bird has, represses wattles....neither gender develop wattles like nonbearded breeds have.

Yeah, I have to change my opinion to cockerel with this pic. The comb does look large. And the tail feathers look like they will have a nice fluffy curl.

Here is the pic I meant to show. Chickens are not easy to photograph. This one still doesn't show the tail in the up position. Thanks for your input.
