Ameraucana or EE? and yes, i know everyone asks that. but...

I don't believe so I've crossed wheaten and black before and got vaired degrees of red leakage....I don't think he has EE features either. I still believe he could be out of the wheaten rooster and black hen. That's just me. I would cross him with a wheaten to see for sure. I think we all could debate about this. That would be my solution but either way he would probably be considered an EE because of the mixed parentage. I like to say that if you breed two standared SQ Ameraucanas together (that are different colors) I like to say they are non standard because they still have conformation and the blood behind them. When I think EE I think of my half d'Uccle half Ameraucana hen.

Like I said I would say breed him to wheaten and if you get anything wheaten they you have some clue of parentage. I'm still learning these are just things I've kinda learned while stalking all kinds of forums.

Give him time..I had a rumpless fella for nearly a year then when he molted he found his tail and I couldn't tell him from his brothers any longer..so he found a new home

so, lemme, get this straight...i've just been given advice to keep a roo longer (just for scientific curiosity, wnna see if he fnds a tail) and been advised to buy a wheaten ameraucana hen. gotta do both now...you guys are the experts after all.

this is why dh hates BYC!

I'm definatly not an expert but Ameraucanas are just my breed of choice. My absolute favorite breed. I would say let him grow out a little and get a wheaten hen and then you will figure out alot of things. If for nothing else just for fun. You will learn a little about genetics as well.

Not to argue with anyone just trying to learn here. I have gotten both answers to this question in the past that I see on this thread. I have gotten they are EE's because they are a non-standard color and they are Ameraucanas just in a non-standard color. I just don't know which is the correct answer. Is there an actual rule or is it more opinion? I know that you would not be able to show the non-standard color but they would still be pure blooded Ameraucanas. I guess I have a hard time wrapping my head around this because with other animals (like breeding horses) if you breed pure bloods of different colors they are still pure bloods. I am just new to all of this but I am trying to learn so please do not take offense to my question because none is meant by it.

It is a difference of opinion. It is nice to call Ameraucanas that are non-standard colors EEs, to help with confusion down the line. If you call the chicks "non standard" Amerauacanas, it is more likely that whoever buys those chicks is going to drop the "non standard" part, call what they have Ameraucanas, and sell more chicks to unknowing people as "true Ameraucanas"...just look at ebay sometime for the extent of this problem...

Technically speaking... I would call them non-standard Ameraucanas. Why?

Because you know the parentage of the bird in question. If you breed 2 different recognized color Amerauanas together, like in this case a Wheaten X Black, I feel technically they are still Ameraucanas. They won't be the right color, but they still will have all of the other unique Amerauana traits. Can these birds be shown? I would say no, no matter how much they "look" like what they are suppose to, because genetically they aren't true to the color I would not show them. That just doesn't sit well with me.

An "Easter Egger" refers to a bird that has more of an unknown lineage. ANYTHING under the sun can make an EE as long as there is the blue egg gene present.

That's the difference, IMO. (To answer that question, yes I feel it's a matter of opinion that's going to change from induvidual to induvidual.)

i don't know either, but the ABC forums are full of people talking about their projects...lavender, black gold, etc...they seem to think they are real ameraucanas. you would think they would be told right away on that fancier's forum that they really have EEs...i don't get it.
