Ameraucana or Whiting True Blue?

Several of the pictures in McMurray's listing for them show birds with beards... https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/whiting_true_blue.html
We ordered Ameraucanas from them. They came back to us today & said our white one (yellow legs, partial muff/beard) was a whiting true blue, but ignored the rest of our flock. We suspect we recieved 7 WTB, but we asked them how they distinguish the difference between their Ameraucanas & their WTB...as they are both mixed flocks not based on feather color but are both selected for egg color...5/7 birds in this order have muffs and beards...only 2 are clean faced. Not sure if this helps, but others on this forum believe they are intermingling their flocks, and after our experience & their response thus far I have to agree.

My Whiting True Blues, some over three years old now and new ones ordered this year are all great for me! They may or may not have beards/muffs, pearl or single combs, all sorts of colors and patterns, with white or mostly white as well as all other chicken colors. They are a bit more skittish than other varieties in my flock but not bad and some are very friendly. They have performed well as layers of from medium to large eggs, mostly large as full adults. A few lay olive eggs, however , most lay "baby" blue or pale blue eggs. They are easy on the feed for their very good production as compared to other breeds I have raised. Two of the WTB's look similar to smaller Welsummers in color and the chicks looked like chipmunks in color with stripes down their backs. All my white ones have at least one spot of color usually gray/black somewhere on them. My personal favorites among the WTB's are the blue gray ones and the gold spangled ones as to colors. I have been satisfied with them as a whole and they produce larger and more eggs than my other blue/olive layers I have had previously as a flock. They add a lot of variety and interest to my coops/runs, and most visitors like one of them the most for appearance over my current breeds, Welsummers, Buff Orpingtons, Black Minorcas and Pearl White Leghorns. My Welsummer Roosters are noble and great looking roosters and are my favorite overall for appearance and good flock leaders without being aggressive to me at all ,usually. All , my current flocks originated from Murray McMurray Hatchery and many others back to 1976/77. I have ordered chicks from many other sources. I have never had a bad flock from them and only a few duds after receiving them from the USPS. I have not raised up any WTB's from chicks hatched here on the Farm ,yet.

I am pretty sure whiting true blue chickens are only available at Murray hatchery because Mr Whiting who created them only works directly through them. He’s from there. Look that up. That has been the only place I’ve seen them. You can tell they’re different than Easter eggers due to the leghorn cross. They’re very hardy. I want to get some.

The statement of whiting true blue chickens being only available at Murray hatchery is incorrect. They have been around long enough that others have started selling them as well. Examples are Dragonfly Farm, Freshly Picked Chicks, Roslin Poultry Ranch and Thousand Hills Family Farm. No big hatchery are carrying them but smaller farms are.
