Hello all, I am looking for an Ameraucana pullet but I need help to be able to distinguish (as much as possible) genders. I know sexing Ameraucanas young is difficult, if not impossible, but does anyone have tips on what to look for? The ones I’m looking at are 4-5 weeks old maybe. I know most males have a three-rowed comb but that’s it.
Please help me make the best educated guess I can! Comparison photos would help!

At 4-5 weeks, you might be able to spot male saddle feathers beginning to grow. Its still a bit early, but quickly growing/feathering birds might have begun growing them. Are you familiar with what male saddle feathers look like?

They are supposed to be pointy right? I didn’t know saddle feathers would be that defined at 4/5 weeks

Yes! And yes, it is early, but sometimes you can spot them if they are beginning to grow them. Let me dig through my phone to see if I can find an example.
I suppose another tip is to try to avoid the red-ist/brightest looking combs 😂

So these are what I have to go by, but I don’t have to choose now. I will pick in person. Two different ages. Smaller ones are 5 weeks and bigger are 7 weeks.

To be more specific with the pea.combs, usually a male with have a more detailed comb, you'll be able to see the rows much easier vs a female.. It can be tricky overall
