1 of our Ameraucanas laid her first egg today (about 6 wks before I'd expected her to, age-wise). I had to look twice when I saw it because I thought a dinosaur had possibly invaded the henhouse. It's long and thin like a reptile egg! What the--

That's funny! I've had a few of those from when my girls were younger!

It probably is a double-yolker! You should crack it open and see.

Does she have oyster shell readily available? Increased amounts of calcium can help the overall uniformity of egg shape.

It'll be interesting to see how often she lays. My two bantams, the only 2 laying until today, both suddenly stopped laying nearly 2 wks ago and haven't started back up. Don't know what's up with that (they're under lights and it's not cold here) but at least I can now look forward to something in the box from time to time! And I love the blue-green color more than I even expected to!!!

When I first read the title of your post, I thought your chicken was making the velociraptor sounds. LOL!

We've gotten funny shaped eggs like that - usually from new layers.

L0L! I've had a couple of hens bawk at me like that. Then I realize where they got their sound effects from for Jurassic Park!

I have a wheaten ameraucana that lays long eggs like that. We named her Long Jean. My kids named one of her eggs before it hatched and at 6.5 weeks it looks like a beautiful blue wheaten pullet. one of the few pullets I got!
